What does learning look like at Stage 4?

Integrated is the learning maturity most organisations should aim to reach. Here’s why:

  • Almost all teams are performing learning-related activities in an efficient, effective manner

  • There is innovation in learning methods and processes and even contributions to the field of learning as a whole

  • Learning experiences are moving away from one-off ‘events’ - although it’s not yet habitual

  • L&D is acting in partnership and consulting with the business to identify business needs, and design learning and non-learning solutions to support performance

Progress from  Integrated to Learning

Organisations that want to move from Integrated should focus their efforts on Strategy.

Though teams are using data to help drive decisions and see their benefits at this stage, they still face hidden weaknesses, which can often be traced back to strategy. This might include;

  • misalignment of the business strategy with the skills and behaviours required to execute on that strategy

  • a focus on catering to a few big projects and stakeholders rather than adhering to a proactive learning strategy

  • lack of understanding of what a learning strategy is and how to own it

  • a list of goals that are being called a strategy.
